Pathetic Poetic
I don't tell you nearly enough just how much I love everything you write :) the question of sexuality in the show is a very interesting one. Even Sidney is only seen as morally questionable because his feelings for Regina are torn between what he think is love, and lust. He seems asexual whenever not in her company and so comes across as morally ambiguous. Let's not forget that become obviously sexually active in the way she did possibly the only bad thing we've seen MM do.

Thank you! I’m glad someone enjoys my ramblings, heh.

I agree with you on the question of sexuality. Which is odd, as the characters I like are clearly adults with a history, not teenagers in the first bloom of love, you know? So OF COURSE they’re going to come with sexual histories that have yet to be revealed.

The only overtly sexual characters we’ve seen so far have been Ruby and Regina. Both of whom seem to be wholly reviled for it, too. What was it Emma said when she found out about Graham and Regina? That it was “disgusting”. I know part of that was bound up in her antipathy for Regina, but it struck me as a really interesting and unusual word to use regarding two unattached adults having sex. Especially from someone like Emma whose sexual history is dubious, at best, from what we’ve gleaned so far.

And yes, you’re right about MM. She goes on a date which doesn’t turn out well but ends up having a one night stand and it’s the FIRST TIME she’s ever done it. And she feels bad about it. Then she and David embark on an affair and, while we’re meant to be rooting for them, I’m really not, personally. But the first sexual escapade she has that actually makes her feel GOOD is one that is steeped in secrecy and adultery.

It’s a theme I’m a little hesitant about when it comes to this show, to be honest, because it’s touted as a “family” show which brings up notions of what is permissable and what isn’t. I’d be really interested to know how they’re going to handle romance between characters just because I want to know what sort of underlying message there’ll be in what they write.

Of course, I’m wholly expecting it to be the case where Emma can be with anyone she likes and that’s okay, but god forbid Regina is sexually interested in anyone because she BAAAAAD and EEEEEVIL, heh. I mean, the poor woman can’t catch a break, can she? Even when she was married to King Leopold - a man who didn’t love her and LOCKED HER IN HER ROOM, she wasn’t allowed to have feelings for anyone else. Little wonder she ended up seeing sex as a tool rather than a gift.
