Pathetic Poetic
So what is your theory about the Evil Queen's past?

I keep thinking about the writers and their little phrase of “Evil isn’t born, it’s made” (I may be paraphrasing there). If that’s the case, then I’m going to be VERY interested in how Regina’s mother is involved in our queen’s development.

The show is touting Barbara Hershey’s character of Cora as very evil indeed. I’m willing to bet that it’s her influence on Regina that plants the seed of “badness” in her. I think what I’d like to see is an overbearing, abusive mother who makes Regina who she is. I also think it will bring up some really interesting issues in terms of being a parent that will bleed into Regina’s relationship with Henry.

I was discussing this with ahkna the other day and we wondered if it was Cora who was responsible for Regina losing the person she loved. If that’s the case, then it would be a fascinating study of the influence parents have on our choices and who we eventually end up being.

I can only really talk about what I’d like to see, but for me, it would make Regina a much more sympathetic character if we saw that her “badness”, so to speak, was ingrained in her by a mother who took away her choices. It’s a tragic sort of story that would fit with the complex character I think Regina is.

If it’s her mother who made her “evil”, though, then I will possibly spend a lot of time weeping over that, heh.

I can’t wait to see how it plays out with Cora and Regina. And, it’s likely that my theorising will be proven wrong but I’m going to go along for the ride anyway. And I’m interested to see how Regina’s father fits in all of this because he clearly loved her and wanted the best for her, but I have to wonder how a man like him ended up with someone like Cora who, from what we’ve been told, is just not a nice person AT ALL.
