I was also thinking along the lines of Snow White revealing Regina’s secret relationship (accidentally?) to her mother, who ends the guy or the affair. I love the idea of Cora as highly controlling, with ‘high aspirations’ for her daughter(stable boy=unsuitable class). What makes someone angrier than being controlled forcibly, especially by a parent? And I could see Regina overcompensating in the parts of her life she can control, it would explain a lot!

I think, if written well, this storyline could be a tipping point for the audience starting to understand Regina. I don’t know, though. I always have high hopes for shows and they constantly disappoint me.

However, yes - I agree with the whole parental thing as you’ve explained here. Experiencing a lack of control as a child and growing up under the regime of a controlling mother can do terrible things to a person and make them do terrible things to other people, too. It would certainly go some way to explaining why Regina is the way she is, particularly if she sought approval from her mother and never got it.

I’m excited to see how it plays out. Excited and kind of terrified, heh.
